Cllr Jack Cohen, Leader of Barnet Liberal Democrats, is accusing the Conservative Administration of losing their grip on parking enforcement throughout the Borough. In particular Cllr Cohen is accusing the Cabinet Member who has responsibility (Cllr Brian Coleman) of breathtaking complacency.
Cllr Cohen has put down a question for Tuesday's Council Meeting.
Question 8 Councillor Jack Cohen
"At the December meeting of the Business Management Overview and Scrutiny Committee
meeting Members were informed that "Parking Enforcement" is in "melt down". Do you accept
responsibility or do you blame your predecessor?"
Answer by Councillor Brian Coleman
"I blame circumstances."
Councillor Cohen is not impressed with the answer. "This is a serious matter but Cllr Coleman's response is flippant at best and arrogant at worst." Cllr Cohen points out that the Conservatives on Barnet Council are justifying enormous hikes in parking charges by blaming Government poor grant settlements. Cllr Cohen says "as usual the responsibility lies nearer home. How much income is being lost because the parking regimes are not being properly regulated. And even more to the point what will law abiding residents think who are paying through their nose for parking when violators are probably getting away scot free"
