Lib Dems fight to save The Castle pub

Cllr Jack Cohen at The Castle pubLocal efforts to save The Castle Pub in Cricklewood have taken a step forward. Childs Hill Liberal Democrats have been supporting a community campaign to save this landmark pub which has been on its present site since at least the eighteenth century. It is the only pub between Golders Green and Swiss cottage. In the past it has been an iconic venue for rock musicians and more recently a kosher pub.

Following a question from Childs Hill Liberal Democrat Councillor Jack Cohen at today's Council meeting, it has been confirmed that the Council has had a change of heart and is now considering a bid to save the pub.

Cllr Jack Cohen is delighted by this news: "Last year the Council rejected out of hand submissions to protect The Castle Pub from developers. I am pleased the Council is now having second thoughts. There has been a pub on this spot for hundreds of years it would be real shame if it was demolished . The sooner the Council makes a decision the better. Developers have already vandalised the facia of the Pub. We must do all we can to preserve this little bit of history and amenity for local residents."
