LD 2017 candidatesPeople in Hendon, Finchley and Golders Green and Chipping Barnet should vote for the Liberal Democrats to prevent a hard Brexit and protect the local economy, the party's three Barnet Parliamentary Candidates have announced today.

The Prime Minister today [Tuesday] called a snap General Election to be held on the 8th June.

The Liberal Democrats are standing on a clear platform to prevent a hard Brexit by staying in the Single Market, and to give the British people the final say on the Brexit deal through a referendum.

Alasdair Hill, Marisha Ray and Jonathan Davies are the Liberal Democrat candidates hoping to win in Hendon, Chipping Barnet and Finchley and Golders Green respectively.

"This election is a huge opportunity for voters across all three Barnet constituencies to change the direction of our country and prevent a disastrous hard Brexit. Barnet voted decisively to remain in the EU, and certainly did not vote for the extreme form of Brexit that Theresa May has imposed on us after being backed by Labour."

Alasdair Hill, a Director of Studies at a North London State Secondary School lives in Burnt Oak and rose to prominence leading the Save Barnet Libraries campaign. He has also stood for the Liberal Democrats in Hendon at the 2015 General Election.

He adds, "Dr Matthew Offord has been on the wrong side of public opinion in Barnet on Brexit, Equal Marriage and on the status of our schools and libraries. Now is the time for the people of Hendon to vote for a party that will stand for what they believe in."

Liberal Democrats Parliamentary Candidate for Chipping Barnet, Marisha Ray, commented: marisha police

"The Conservatives have interpreted the result of the EU referendum in a way that nobody wanted, nobody mandated and nobody thinks will benefit the United Kingdom. Only the Liberal Democrats will give the people a final say on the Brexit deal"

Marisha Ray, a former senior Councillor responsible for crime reduction in another outstanding London Borough and former board member at NHS Whittington Health providing hospital and NHS community health services, spent much of her childhood in Barnet and stood for the Liberal Democrats in Chipping Barnet in 2015.

She adds, "Chipping Barnet is represented by a former Northern Ireland secretary and vociferous, staunch Brexiteer - a Brexit which throws into doubt so much including the open border between Northern Ireland and the Republic. Now is a real opportunity for Chipping Barnet to vote for a party that puts unity at the forefront of British politics."

"The Labour Party are divided. Under Corbyn they have demonstrated their inability to fulfil the role of Opposition to this extreme version of Brexit by delivering a blank-cheque to the Tories and allow them to take the path of Hard Brexit."

Jonathan Davies, Treasurer of Golders Green Synagogue, former Childs Hill Councillor and Childs Hill resident, has substantial campaigning experience in Barnet. He has stood for the Liberal Democrats in Finchley and Golders Green in the 2015 General Election.

He adds, "The Liberal Democrats are the real opposition to the Conservative Brexit Government and the only party fighting for a Britain that is open, tolerant and united."
