The former NatWest bank on Ballards Lane - now at risk of becoming a casino

A planning application has been submitted for a 24-hour gaming centre, including slot machines and a bingo licence, at the site of the old NatWest building on the corner of Ballards Lane and Redbourne Avenue. If approved, the 'Merkur Cashino' would sit right in the heart of Finchley Central, directly opposite a pub, drawing vulnerable people into addictive gambling around the clock and causing widespread disturbance.

Barnet Lib Dems have a positive and exciting vision for Finchley Central: we back the emerging community-led plans for 'Finchley Square', turning what is currently an underloved area into a vibrant neighbourhood hub. Putting a gambling den smack-bang in the middle of this area would put the entire regeneration project in jeopardy.

Hundreds of local residents have already written letters of objection via Barnet's Planning Portal. If you live in Finchley, we encourage you to join them, via this link.
